Putter Head Project: Totally adjustable swing feel
This was a part of Design Studio VI(Integrated Design) and the goal of the Putter Head Project was to design a golf putter that was able to adjust the swing feel by interchangeable weights and putter face inserts.

Aesthetic of Target Community
The target audience of our putter is higher-class competitive golf players. This includes business executives who loves to golf competitively on weekends and during vacation, as well as collegiate golfers at high level, and golf enthusiast who is always looking to improve their game. Up on designing the putter, we imagined being used at warmer and close-to -coast locations. We imagined our customer to be a part of club house or has a property in golf course neighborhood. In terms of their design preference, we targeted customers who seek modern, futuristic, elegant, and streamline shapes.

Major Objective of the Project
The Putter Head Project allowed me to learn how to use House of Qualities to organize and evaluate our design and other solutions currently on the market. Along with the newly learned method, I was able to further polish the DFM of injection molding parts and powder metallurgy parts.
Our Solution:

We designed a putter with two interchangeable weights on the bottom of the putter to adjust the way the putter sets (the angle putter head settles when the shaft is placed on a flat surface horizontally). In addition to the weight inserts, we designed interchangeable putter face inserts to change the feel of the put. We achieved this design by making the putter face inserts out of different materials with different densities, which changes the dampening of the vibration that travels up the shaft to the putter. This dampening causes the putting feel to change.

For the visceral part of the design, we made the putter to have streamline shape without almost no corners to create a modern and elegant feel. The color choice and the side view of the putter was inspired by Flamingos, which we used to theme the putter. This was because our customer profile focused on warmer close-to-coast geographic areas.
