Use Cases for Solar-Powered Shark-Repelling Buoy
**This was the primitive idea for the SolSweeper Project
Pre-Conditions:
Park users are concerned about shark attacks
Post-Conditions: Park users are unaffected by sharks
Normal Flow:
-
Lifeguard/park users checks the status of the shark-repelling buoy system
-
Shark-repelling system notifies the status through an app
-
Shark-repeller emits signal
-
The solar panel provides energy for the repelling device
-
Park users enjoys the park
-
Signal emitted by repeller repels sharks
-
Park users returns to the bay for precaution
-
Lifeguard signals the end of shark presence
Alternate Flow:
2B: If cloudy, park owner/lifeguard turns on the backup battery option
4B: Power flows from the battery to the shark-repelling system
(9: Lifeguard closes the park due to insufficient power provided to the shark-repelling system)
Quality Attributes
Shark-Inhabited Waters, Sunny Day
Source: Park user
Stimulus: Wishes to be in the water without fear of a shark attack
Artifact: Buoy with shark repelling capability
Environment: Creates a safe zone surrounded by the buoy wall
Response: Park user enters the water and pursue his/her activities as the buoy system repels sharks, keeping her/him safe
Response Measure: Distance at which the shark is repelled from the buoy wall, goal of 11’ radius
Shark-Inhabited Waters, Cloudy Day
Source: Park user
Stimulus: Wishes to be in the water without fear of a shark attack
Artifact: Buoy with shark repelling capability
Environment: Creates a safe zone surrounded by the buoy wall
Response: The buoy system/lifeguard activates the backup battery, the park user enjoys the bay as normal. The buoy system repels sharks, keep park user safe.
Response Measure: Distance at which the shark is repelled from the buoy wall, goal of 11’ radius
Shark-free Waters
Source: Park user
Stimulus: Wishes to be in the water
Artifact: Buoy with shark repelling capability
Environment: Creates a safe zone surrounded by the buoy wall
Response: Park user surfs as she/he would normally
Response Measure: Smoothness of board in comparison with a stock board; user jury
