Persona for Six Grades in Urban Setting

Sixth grade students in urban schools, in a science class. I am writing my case when I went to school in Tokyo, one the largest urban areas in the world

Summary:

In sixth grade, students continue to deepen their knowledge and skills in the science world. Which includes physics, chemistry, biology, and geology. The specific focus is held on the development of theories and forming discussion to prepare for the future, where critical thinking can largely benefit in science classes.

Personal/Professional Background:

Six graders who goes to a private school in Tokyo has slightly different background compared to other six graders. For example, students commutes every morning using public transportation such as, bus and train. Although it is a private school, students come from various social groups and geographic locations. Regardless, this type of school attracts many unique individuals to one place.

User Environments/Scenario:

  • Up to over 90 minutes of commuting time one way for some students

  • Small class setting

  • Same classmates, different teachers for each subject

  • Lecture/discussion based class setting

  • Develop a hypothesis from data, observation, and past studies

  • Conduct a discussion to come to a conclusion as a class before a revealing experiment

Psycho-graphics:

Sixth graders are on the verge of discovering their own identity, and thus trying to become independent from their parents. Although students at this urban setting achieve some of this through daily commute using public transportation, it is necessary for them to have a mentor they are comfortable trusting and opening up to. It is important to have an open/accepting class environment to grow them as an individual.

End Goal(s):

  • Complete the academic year

  • Gain knowledge in science

  • Mature as an individual
